It returns live airspace information in the form of state vectors for research and non-commercial purposes. It does not provide commercial flight data such as airport schedules, delays or similar information that cannot be derived from ADS-B data contents!
The OpenSky Network is a non-profit association based in Switzerland that operates a crowd sourced global database of air traffic control data. The network consists of thousands of sensors connected to the Internet by volunteers, whose main purpose is to measure the radio signals emitted by aircraft to track their position.
