Workflow Validator Trigger (Basic)

This workflow validates workflows when changes are detected in defined team spaces.

It performs four main steps:

1. Load metadata about the workflow.

2. Run governance checks on the metadata, passing or failing specific rules.

3. Evaluate check outcomes by selecting which checks must pass for which action to apply. If they all pass, one path is followed; if any fail, another path is taken. This controls which governance actions are executed.

4. Prepare and execute the configured governance actions.

The workflow can be deployed as is, but it is intended to serve as a blueprint for adapting governance logic (checker and action components) to your organizations needs.

Workflow Validator Trigger (Basic)

• KNIME SaaS with Executor version 5.13 and above

Input from Monitored Workflow Version

  • This workflow runs as a trigger deployment when a workflow is added or updated in a monitored team space. It receives event metadata and fetches the workflow details needed for validation.

  • For development and testing, enter a workflow URL in the "Generate Workflow Info" component to simulate an event and load workflow metadata.

Collecting Check Results

Input: Workflow details, summary, and metadata as JSON.

Output: Three columns, in this order:

  1. Check Passed? (Boolean): true if the check passes; false otherwise.

  2. Message (String): Explains the result and, for a failed check, what the workflow builder should fix. It can also list affected nodes. Keep version label messages within 400 characters.

  3. Check Name (String): Identifies the check for evaluation and governance actions.

Use the example checker components as templates for your own checks.

Evaluate Check Results

Select the checks to evaluate in the Check Evaluation Switch component.

If all selected checks pass, the top branch is active. If any selected check fails, the bottom branch is active.

The active branch assigns the corresponding version label.

Executing Governance Actions

This workflow assigns a version label based on the selected checks:

  • Approved: all selected checks pass.

  • Not approved: at least one selected check fails.

Version label messages explain the validation result to the workflow builder. For failed checks, state what is wrong and how to fix it.

Configure the version label IDs in the String Configuration nodes.
